The Two Best Albums Out Right Now

Undoubtedly many of you have heard about the Fleet Foxes by now. They are a local rock group that combine simple folk (think My Morning Jacket circa The Tennessee Fire or The Shepards Dog Iron and Wine) with luscious Beach Boys style harmonies to create a sound that is both simple in instrumentation yet non-linear in song structure. I have not stopped listening to this record for two weeks straight.

The next album you need to get is by a lesser known band named the Dodos. Their album Visitor is hard to pigeonhole but I'll do my best to at least clue you in as to what bands I believe inspire their music. Picture a more acoustic everything-but-the-kitchen-sink approach to song arrangements similar to Arcade Fire, combined that with occasional background vocals that sound like the punkier choruses of Modest Mouse songs, add on some lo-fi production like that of Neutral Milk Hotel's In the Aeroplane Over the Sea, throw in some blues and then finally some Beta Band reverb and I think you would have a general idea of what the band sounds like.
You can stream the whole album here.
They play Seattle next Wednesday at Neumos.
