Top Five Albums of 2009
1. Phoenix- Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix
This is the album I played the most this year. Perfect pop songs with a touch of electronica. Love Like a Sunset is the best psychedelic Chemical Brothers song they didn't write.
2. Animal Collective- Merriweather Post Pavilion
My Girls received the most attention (it is awesome) but the urgency of Summertime Clothes makes it the best song to both sing and dance to. And the video is trippy as hell.
3. Them Crooked Vultures- Them Crooked Vultures
I needed this. Rock needed this kick in the pants. I wasn't sure what the former members of QotSA, Nirvana, and Led Zeppelin would create together. To my surprise, it sounds like Cream trying to play Zeppelin's Presence, the most underrated of the Zep albums. It's uptempo, raw, dirty, and edgy. And did I mention it rocks? Check out this video for Elephants. Even Jimmy Page would half to admit this riff is nuts.
4. Yea Yeah Yeahs- It's Blitz
Best disco/punk/rock album since Blondie's Parallel Lines.
5.Nightwave- The Dreamwave Hour 2 (dance mix featuring Mirrors, Phoenix, Cut Copy, Nightwave, Daft Punk, and Shazam etc.)
