I have created Kicked It In the Sun in the hopes of creating a forum where we can all discuss sports, music, movies, and politics etc. A few times a week I will add links to any articles or videos etc for your enjoyment. Please email me with any links to anything you think others would appreciate as well. On the right hand side I have included links to websites I check on a daily basis.

Listen to the New REM album now.
Rolling Stone gives Accelerate four stars and Spin throws it four and a half. Pretty rockin. Sounds like REM in the mid 80's really.
The Raconteurs are coming to Seattle in April and are playing at super small club Neumos.

Yes, this is Jack White's "other" band that happens to rock amazingly hard.
Need proof? Download a full live set here. These live versions put the studio versions to shame.

Who is this on Kiro 7 NEWS?

Even though the name says Steve Raible, I still don't believe it. Where is the mustache man hiding? What have you done with him?

Early review of the new Death Cab For Cutie records compares it to some great bands and records.
Here is a small bit from the lengthy early review:
"If they're good enough — and clearly, Death Cab are — then greatness follows. It's what happened to Radiohead on OK Computer, or Beck on Odelay or even the White Stripes on Elephant. And now you can add Death Cab for Cutie to the conversation, and whether Narrow Stairs has the same cultural impact as any of those other albums remains to be seen — I'm not even sure any of their fans are gonna buy it — but suffice it to say, it deserves to be heard by as many people as possible."

It's Vampire Weekend Time...this weekend!
Vampire Weekend has made the best album of 2007 (so far). Their internet buzz last year actually did not over hype the album which plays as if Paul Simon (circa the African flavored Graceland record) and The Police went to the Caribbean to see an island flavored music festival followed by a Rushmore screening. The album has tribal and latin style rhythms but still sometimes feel punk or at least new wave. It's diverse as hell and very catchy. But therein lies the problem.
Vampire Weekend has gone from the internet to mainstream radio (death to us all) in six months. And tomorrow night they are on Saturday Night Live.
So at this point I offer some advice: please do not overexpose your band. Stay small for a bit. Don't go for the money. Keep touring. Don't do interviews or photo shoots. Just make more solid records or you will end up like the next Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and die a quick and painful blog based death after your quick follow up album bombs.

The fact that Gay couples have to "win" anything is still a disgrace.
